The grant will allow the UIW departmenf of mathematics to implement the Mathematics Scholars Program. This program is designed to open doors for more academicall talented but financially needyg students to earn baccalaureate degrees in The grant is the largest the UIW department of mathematiczs hasever received. The Mathematics Scholars Program recruitsw students from localhigh schools, junior and from the ranks of UIW students on Scholarship recipients for the program are selected by a and scholarships are worth up to $8,750p per student each year for up to four Scholars are supported through a variety of university and program-specific initiatives to ensurwe their success at UIW.
The program also fund initiatives for career such as visits tolocalk companies, speaker invitations and internship placements. Applications for the programm are now being accepted and scholarships will be available beginningg in the fall2009 semester. The University of the Incarnats Word is a private liberap arts university that offers more than 70 degrees at the graduate anddoctoral levels. The UIW system continues to developp internationally and boasts a presencre in both Chinaand Mexico, as well as in San Corpus Christi and Goodyear, Ariz. It has nearly 100 “sisted schools” in 30 countries.
