Manpower: 6% of Honolulu employers to hire in 3Q - St. Louis Business Journal:

From July to September, 6 percent of the companie interviewed in the Honolulu metrlo area plan to hiremore employees, while 11 percen expect to reduce their payrolls, accordinhg to the survey from Milwaukee-based (NYSE: Seventy-eight percent expect to maintain theire current staff levels and 5 percent remainj uncertain about hiring plans. Hiringt is expected to be a little lighter than in the second when 10 percent of companiew surveyed planned to hire and 12 percent expected tocut payrolls, said Manpower spokeswoman Mary Lou Callahan. For the coming quarter, job prospects in the Honolulh area appear best in wholesalee and retail trade and leisureand hospitality.
Employers in durable goods manufacturing, nondurable goods manufacturing, information, professional and business services, education and health services and governmentg intend tocut staffing. Hirinbg in construction, transportation and utilities, financial activities and othefr services is expected toremaihn unchanged. National survey resultds showed little change from thesecondx quarter. Of the more than 28,000 employers surveyed acrossthe country, 15 percen t expect to increase their staff levels during the thirr quarter, while 13 percent expect to reduce their Sixty-seven percent expect no change in hiring and 5 percent are undecided about their third-quarter hiring plans.
“The data shows continues hesitancyamong employers,” said Jonas Prising, president of the Americasx for Manpower. “They are treadinb slowly and watching with guarded hoping a few quarters of stabilityh will be the precursor tothe recovery.”
